What items are symbolic in "Catcher in the Rye" book?
This is just my personal interpretation. Well first of all, the obvious symbolic item is Holden wanting to be the catcher in the rye. He wants to save children from losing their innocence/youth. Another one are the ducks in central park. He asks several times, where the ducks go when the lake freezes over. I think of this as him saying "where am I/the kids supposed to go when they feel trapped." This is just my brief interpretation. There are many other (more important, i would say) themes to the book but I won't mention them because they aren't items. Good luck.
