Why do Jews eat Chinese food on December 25th?

I am not religious in the slightest bit. To me Christmas day is a day of gift giving and hanging out with friends and family.I invited a few of my Jewish friends over for Christmas day turkey, but they all told me that on Dec 25th most Jews go out to Chinese restaurants. Why is that? Is this a widespread tradition? And why Chinese food?
