Startup is slow, text seams to scroll more than appear.?

I have my PC boot without GUI and show OS boot info. so i see Vista load of off its drivers. but suddenly, instead of these just instantly scrolling down and being laoded, it seams to have to think obout every line, taking much much longer to boot. and if i imporperly shutdown, so the improper shutdown screen comes up (asking me if i want to boot windows normally etc.) the text seams to slowing scroll onto the screen, instead of just appear. what's up with this?
