Can you name this movie?

I can remember who made it but it's about a kid who get's superpowers after he find this metallic suit in a rock or spaceship or something that falls from the sky in a junk yard. I think it was made in the 90's. The suit had a mind of it's own kind of and could talk but for some reason it needed him to be in it.
